The Trump Administration is About to Garnish your Wages

The American education system is without a doubt the worst in the developed world. Education, just like every other essential commodity in the United States, is hidden behind enormous and often escalating paywalls. Many students, despite getting degrees promising them jobs and a better standard of living are just left with debt and confusion as they work a job they could have easily gotten without a college degree.
As a result of this lack of upward mobility, many college graduates and dropouts alike, are unable to pay their high interest student loans. Many politicians, mostly Democrats, have promised to forgive student loan debt so students can finally have a shot at the almost mythological ‘American Dream.’ This promise has yet to be kept by either side of the aisle.
But things have recently gotten significantly worse for college students, just like everything else has because of one man: Donald Trump. As of May 5th, 2025, the Trump Administration’s Department of Education led by Linda McMahon, yes the Linda McMahon married to the WWE’s Vince McMahon, is now leading the Department of Education.
I honestly don’t know how the fuck that happened, but it did. One of the world’s foremost producers of brain rot is now after the bank accounts of struggling students. How fun.
The current student loan balance in the United States is $1.6 trillion dollars—yes TRILLION with a T. The Biden Administration, for my many critiques of it, worked on a series of measures to forgive student loans. During Biden’s presidency, the Biden Administration successfully cancelled $183 billion in student loan debt, which benefitted more than 5 million Americans struggling with elevated costs.
It has been long known that many of the US’s college lending programs are deeply unfair and predatory, but this has not stopped them from trapping more than 40 million Americans in debt.
As of 2024, the average student loan debt is $37,000, with some students borrowing into the six figures to earn graduate degrees and PhDs. The interest on these loans range from 5% all the way to 20%. Minimum payment plans are designed to keep in debt effectively forever.
This system is unsustainable. And it couldn’t come at a worse time. The Trump Administration has also issued tariffs on a number of countries, increasing the costs of many goods and services. Reduced the social safety net, and has increased the defense budget to an unprecedented $1 trillion.
My only question is… Are you tired of winning yet? I know the Democrats aren’t great. I understand that. But never, ever vote for a Republican. I don’t give a fuck how charismatic they are, how funny they are—never do it. You’re setting yourself and Americans up for unimaginable grifts.
The success of Donald Trump isn’t due to him being a great business man. The success of Donald Trump is an indictment of our entire system.
