Now that the Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef has pretty much concluded, it’s time to analyze what actually happened, and how things could have been different. There’s no question that Kendrick Lamar beat Drake. “Not Like Us" is one of the most effective and potentially career damaging diss tracks ever recorded. However, its concept is based on a glaring contradiction.
The entire track is based on the premise that Drake is a pedophile, and not only is he a pedophile, but he associates with pedophiles. The title “Not Like Us” is presenting the idea that Kendrick Lamar, and much of the audience aren’t like Drake due to his sick perversion. A great example of this happens early in the song when Kendrick Raps:
“Say, Drake, I hear you like 'em young
You better not ever go to cell block one
To any bitch that talk to him and they in love
Just make sure you hide your lil' sister from him
They tell me Chubbs the only one that get your hand-me-downs
And PARTY at the party, playin' with his nose now
And Baka got a weird case, why is he around?
Certified Lover Boy? Certified pedophiles”
There’s only one problem with that: Kodak Black got a weird case too, and he narrated Kendrick Lamar’s entire fucking record. Why is he around? Back in 2016, Kodak Black raped a 16 year old girl at a hotel in South Carolina. Not only did Kodak rape her, he left bites and bruises on much of her body, as she was slammed against a wall and bitten. The 16 year old high school student reported the assault to a school nurse the next day. Kodak Black plead guilty to the sexual assault charges, and was later pardoned by former President, Donald Trump. Since the pardon, Kodak Black has gone on to become a vocal Trump supporter, and even recently recorded a track endorsing Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election.
While Kendrick Lamar is a fantastic artist and I legitimately love his music, he’s kind of a self-righteous hypocrite whose morality act falls apart under even the slightest amount of scrutiny.
Drake could’ve easily exploited this. Drake, to his credit, has not been convicted of sexual assault or pedophilia. Kodak Black has. I still don’t understand why Drake didn’t talk about this.
Kendrick’s association with Kodak Black makes him, at least by association, much of what he is accusing Drake of being. In all honesty, “Not Like Us” should’ve been called “We Got A Lot In Common.”
Not only does the disses at Drake fall flat when pointing out the Kodak Black connection, but it calls into question Kendrick’s character as a person. If Kendrick is elevating and platforming convicted sex offenders in one breath, and denouncing them (as he should) in the other, that makes Kendrick Lamar an opportunist and a fucking fraud.
This isn’t to say that Drake’s not a pedophile, he very well may be. I don’t know, but Kendrick Lamar clearly doesn’t have a problem with that. If he did, he wouldn’t have collaborated with Kodak Black in the first place.
On “Meet The Grahams” Kendrick Lamar raps:
“You raised a horrible fuckin' person, the nerve of you, Dennis
Sandra, sit down, what I'm about to say is heavy, now listen
Mm-mm, your son's a sick man with sick thoughts, I think n***as like him should die.”
Well Kendrick, if you want to kill pedophiles, pick up a gun and find one. You clearly won’t have to look far… Since you hang out and collaborate with them.
You ain’t gotta lie to kick it, Kendrick. You ain’t gotta lie.
